Youth Program (mostly 5th-8th graders)

Sing up now for Winter classes!!!

SCHEDULE:

When:  WEDNESDAYs:   from 7:00 - 8:30

NEW schedule:

Open House 1st Class ! 2nd Class 3rd class 4th class 5th class NO CLASS! No Class 6th class 7th class 8th/final class

Where:  Sprague Elementary School multi-purpose room. Sprague is on Riverwoods Rd., just south of Half Day Rd (Rte 22).  (The map shows how to drive in around the back where the multi-purpose room and parking is, but not the true address.)

How to REGISTER:

EVERYONE: Email me as soon as possible.  Yes, we are very informal, but if it looks like we won't have at least 9-10 kids from Daniel Wright, we'll go out to Buffalo Grove etc, and recruit from there to make sure we have enough kids. And THEN if our 'regulars' show up, we fell pretty silly having to suddenly explain why we are overbooked/sold-out :(

Returning Students: If you want to skip the Open House, mail a check BEFORE SEP 25th for the following amount payable to Blade Masters

COST:

    Tuition:    $99

Rental      $49    (deduct, if you have your own)

    Total      $148

(disc)     ($14)    ONLY IF: 1) You are returning from last session 2 months ago,

                                          2) You mail a check for $138 ($85 w/o rental) before Sep 30th.

Glove/uap $50    <-- If you don't have one, e.g., all new students, 'forgetful' returning new students.

Mail check (or drop in mailbox):

    Blade Masters,

    3 Darby Lane,

    Lincolnshire IL 60069

(incl Student's name, grade, and your email)

New students who do not yet have their own Glove and Underarm protector (or returning students who 'misplaced' them) will need to buy their own, which the Club can sell you for a total of about $45.  LET ME KNOW ASAP IF YOU NEED THIS SINCE - AS YOU KNOW - THIS STUFF IS ORDERED FROM CALIFORNIA, AS THERE IS NO 'MIDWEST MFR' OF FENCING EQUIPMENT!'  We do have some new gloves 'in stock', but luck would mandate that they aren't your size, so check as soon as you can if you need to buy anything, ok?  Please.

For new students:  These get stinky and need to be washed every few months.  That's why you get to buy them instead of rent them from us.  If you actually wash them is up to you!

Roster of registered students is at bottom of page

Discipline:

While not usually a problem, some kids do get rambunctious.  Here's the structure we're going to follow:

Yellow Card:  a 5 minute time-out, for disturbances (e.g., making the instructor single you out for not doing what you are supposed to) that do not disrupt or directly effect other students

Red Card:  a 10 minute time-out, for disturbances that do affect other students (eg, chasing, blatant distractions, etc), or disregarding a previous penalty (e.g., getting in trouble when you're supposed to be in the isolation/penalty time-out box).

Note:  3 Yellow cards in a single evening automatically triggers an (additional!) Red Card (total of 25 minutes!) for the evening.

Note:  Anything more than 1 Red Card will qualify for a call/notice to parent

Black Card: VERY SERIOUS: suspension for an entire session (1.5 hrs), ANY safety violation like pointing foils at someone without a mask, most especially if warned by an instructor earlier; or 2 Red Cards in a single evening.

Time-outs are taken from fencing or drill times, not warm-up or clean up time!

NOTE: Though it should go without saying, there is no refund for time lost due to time-outs.

Here's our general outline for the 90 minutes we have together each week:

 First 15 minutes:

Warm up and stretches.  Not 'cool', but essential

 Next 30 minutes:

Adam and half the class do drills and learning new skills,

while Jackie and the other half do actual bouts/practices
 Next 30 minutes

Same as above, but the students switch:

Those doing drills are now bouting with Jackie, and vice versa.

 Last 15 minutes:

(If we're not running over from the above, and actually HAVE

15 minutes left over), games and review.

FYI: The book we will be using as a guide is Fencing: Steps to Success.  You certainly do not need to buy it, but its a very good book and we have a few copies at the Club ($15), and we link  to the Amazon.com website here as a courtesy.
